Recently I teamed up with the Barega Sax quartet and Annie Larsen (clarinets) for single reed quartets and sextets in Brisbane and Sydney. Barega and I actively compose and commission music, resulting in an invigorating and gripping variety of sounds, including Andrew Ball‘s “Time On The Scale Of A Colossus“, and my original “The Pinch Part 2“. I am utterly enamoured of the sax quartet sound and will be teaming with them again in 2015.
Coming up in December is my fifth concert with Wind Energy, playing the unique genre of contemporary chamber music dealing with heritage and the environment, written by Sydney composer, Kristofer Spike. It’s a charity fundraiser to save the Leard Forest near Tamworth, NSW. The music is beautiful, ethereal, fun, and highly programmatic, honouring people such as former Greens senator Bob Brown, and beautiful places, like Kanangra Falls.
Over the next few months I will be collaborating further in both traditional and brand new music, with a special focus on strings with clarinet. Watch this space for announcements on trios with violin and piano, viola and piano, AND an exciting quintet with the two strings plus piano four hands! There will also be a premiere in January of my sonatina for clarinet and piano at the Wollongong Conservatorium.
